Clary Sage blends beautifully with many other oils, but particularly well with Lavender, Bergamot, Rose and Geranium.

Native to Italy, Syria and southern France but grows well wherever the soil is dry enough.

Use in skincare to help balance oily, acne prone skin - dilute with a base cream or lotion. Dilute to a maximum of 1% in a carrier oil and use in massage to help ease stress and tension. Add a few drops to a bath to help calm the mind and help wind down before bed. Diffuse in a traditional burner or fragrancer to help create a relaxing atmosphere in the home.

Traditionally used as a skin conditioner, astringent, soothing agent, aphrodisiac and muscle relaxant.

Dilute in a carrier oil before skin application. Keep away from children and out of eyes. Do not take internally or apply undiluted to the skin. For further advice on using essential oils to treat medical conditions, we recommend you seek advice from a professional.

Our essential oils all have a shelf life in excess of 12 months.  However, as with any essential oil we recommend using it within 12 months of opening.

Towards the end of pregnancy, i.e. during the last 6 weeks, oils can be used to prepare the uterus for labour. Rose otto is excellent for this. Adding three drops of rose otto to 3 tablespoons of the stretch mark mix helps the uterus to gain tone and strength. You can also put 2 drops of rose otto and 2 drops of clary sage in the bath (if you are still able to enjoy having one). Sage or fennel tea, available from health shops, can be drunk daily 4 – 6 weeks prior to the delivery date, to enhance the above treatment.

The dread of any pregnant woman is to be left with stretch marks and these can be prevented with the twice-daily use of an essential oil massage mix. Applied twice a day from the fourth month onwards, a mixed oil usually proves to be most effective. Suggested oils are lavender, chamomile (Moroccan or Roman) and frankincense. It is important, however, that a twice-daily routine is STRICTLY adhered to, remembering to cover breasts, thighs and bottom as well as stomach as the baby grows. Most people find it more comfortable to use a lotion mixture in the morning and the oil mixture at night. It is necessary to use the oil mixture at least once a day, to benefit from the extra lubrication this gives.

 

Inhalation is an effective method if you are using essential oils while in labour, to help contractual pains. During contractions place a few drops each of lavender and clary sage onto a cotton wool ball and hold in your hand to use when necessary (to replace the gas and air machine!) Additional aid is to use a vaporiser in the labour suite – this way everybody benefits.

Horses are MUCH more sensitive to essential oils than humans.

Never force an essential oil on a horse

Allow a horse to choose and breathe what they need and the

length of time they need with a particular oil offering only about

once per week unless their health or oestrus dictates otherwise.

If they breathe in 3-4 oils in a session, stop and offer others

another day as more in one session will overwhelm the horse.

The horses’ choice may not always be what you would have

chosen.

Never put an oil on a horses’ skin or allow them to ingest an oil

unless advised to do so by a health care practitioner. 

Citrus oils can burn the skin in sunlight.

Essential oils are not a replacement for traditional medicine.
